Hi, my name is Ewald Calitz. My journey as an artist started late in life. In 2022 my daughter took art as a subject in school, and at the same time I was looking for new direction in life. After suffering from burnout for several years, and with the added strain of the Covid pandemic, my ministry of 25 years came to an end. I not only needed something that would support my family, I needed something that would bring healing to my spirit. So, when I saw my daughter painting, I thought that I would try it out. I bought a beginner’s watercolor set and started painting with the help of YouTube videos. But it was only after I met Charlotte Bresser at the end of 2023 that my art career got some traction. I not only found something amazing to do, I also found therapy for my soul. Art helps me to be grounded in the present moment. It is my island where I escape to, my happy place where I can just be me. This is why I create art. I teach art because I strongly believe that everyone is in need of an island - a place where you can add your own color to life.
