Background
Watercolor Elements is a workbook in PDF format that was developed with beginners in mind. Because I myself was a beginner not to long ago, the needs of a beginner are still fresh in my mind. I remember sitting in art classes and art workshops and not having a clue how to make use of what I have learned. YouTube tutorials helped me just enough not to help me at all. After nine months of struggling I put my brushes away and gave up. Eight months later I decided to give it a second chance. It took me almost a year and a half to understand what watercolor was all about.
Watercolor is a wonderful medium. For me personally it opened a door to a magical island where I could escape to, and where I could be myself. For this reason and because I understand how confusing it can be when starting out, I designed workshops that answer all the questions I had at the beginning of my journey. My aim is to unlock the wonderful world of watercolor so that others can also experience the joy of having an island.
One of my initial stumbling blocks was to have something to paint. I “knew” all the watercolor techniques, but I did not know what to draw to practice those techniques on. This is what led to the creation of this book.
Watercolor Elements Workbook
The aim of this workbook is to help people draw a paintable picture, in order for them to be able to focus their energy on exercising watercolor techniques. The reason why I am focusing on painting is that painting and drawing are two very different skills. In the end we should master both, but if drawing is not your cup of tea, it would be awesome if there was something to help you practice your painting skills, while you are also developing drawing techniques over time.
This workbook is meant to serve as a shortcut to bypass drawing in order to get to painting with watercolor. It contains a description on how to use this book, an outline on basic composition, as well as a variety of elements you can add together to create a paintable picture. Yes, this does mean that you will be tracing, but even when you are tracing your picture your brain is making specific connections that will eventually also improve your drawing skills. To me it sounds like a win-win scenario.
And if you subscribe to my monthly newsletter, you will have the added benefit of receiving an extra page filled with elements to add to this workbook.
